Intercultural Awareness

Mistrust of the strange is part of our survival kit, but intercultural training sets out to make cultures seem more familiar. To work effectively across cultural boundaries people need to understand each other’s values, norms, taboos, traditions and fashions in order to be able to respect them. This includs communication styles, conflict management and negotiation preferences.  Intercultural capability is of epic importance. Intercultural ability comes at the top of the list of key competencies for the 21st century.   And whilst there are many big wins, even from investing small amounts of effort, intercultural skills are still one of the most underinvested areas of management.
